Established in 1961, this corner supermarket is about five minutes away from Louisiana State University and caters to the surrounding neighborhoods (Southdowns, Hundred Oaks, and University Lakes, to name a few) as well as to the numerous college students – many of whom ride their bikes and conveniently lock them in the bike racks in front of the store. The store harkens back to the days when life was simpler, service was supreme, and friends were found in the aisle and behind the counter at the local store!
Bet-R also reflects a homegrown commitment to quality with the finest in perishables (meat, produce and deli) and a great selection of grocery items. This means our customers don’t have to go across town to find what they want and need.
Bet-R is always looking for ways to improve for its customers and consequently completed a 3,700 square-foot addition in November 2010. The expansion was planned out for several years to greatly improve customer experiences.
Bet-R has even been the set for a movie production – “Battle: Los Angeles,” an aliens vs. Marines big budget film. But, the store will always remain focused first and foremost on its customers … in fact, Bet-R originally turned down the production company’s request to use the store, because it knows its customers rely on the store being open. This brief brush with fame is hardly worth mentioning to the staff who are much more proud of the store’s lengthy history and relationship with its interesting and diverse customer base!
